To Read | Black Residents Discuss Disparities in Medical Training

A STAT News investigation reportedly found that black residents either leave or are terminated from training programs at far higher rates than white residents. The investigators maintain that this is the key reason that certain fields such as neurosurgery and dermatology have been unable to significantly diversify despite the total number of residency spots increasing nationally.

Researchers from the National Eye Institute have identified a novel macular dystrophy, which is yet to be named. Macular dystrophies are disorders that typically cause central visual loss due to mutations in several genes, including ABCA4, BEST1, PRPH2, and TIMP3.
